Commitment:
With the enrollment of your child in Miss Jane’s Music for Young Children, you have made an important educational decision for your child.  Both you and your child will receive valuable music training that will provide a lifetime of enjoyment Furthermore; research indicates that children studying music show marked improvement in other subjects as well.  Music is for EVERYONE.  That’s the MYC philosophy, and with your cooperation we can provide a gift that will last a lifetime; the gift of music!

Registration and Tuition Fees:
A $150.00 registration fee will be required for every student entering the school.  At the start of each consecutive year a study an additional re-registration fee will be collected. Tuition is collected monthly at a rate of $85.00.  This covers all lessons received in a given month (usually four, sometimes five, three in a holiday month).  The non-refundable registration fee covers administrative costs, classroom supplies, and the materials your child will need for the entire school year.  Please bring all materials to class each week.  The tuition you pay reserves a place for your child in a weekly class; therefore there is no reduction for missed lessons.  Tuition is due the first class of each month.  A late fee of $5.00 will be charged on the 11th.  If you miss the first class of the month, please mail your payment to “Miss Jane”, Inc., 4705 NE 11 Ave., Oakland Park, FL 33334.

Semester Payment:
If you prefer to pay tuition by semester, you will receive a $10.00 discount.  Semester One (September – December) is $330.00.  Semester Two (January – May) is $415.00.

Family Discount
If you have two or more children enrolled at the same time, you will receive a $10.00 discount per month.

Keyboard Rental or Purchase:
All students must have access to a keyboard for practice. You may rent one from us at the cost of $40.00 per month or we will gladly assist you with purchasing one. Keyboards must be at least four octaves (49 notes) and have full-sized piano keys.  Average cost of a suitable keyboard is about $175.00.

Class Schedules:
Classes meet once a week for one hour at the same time each week for the duration of the course.  Students are grouped according to age, skill development, and musical goals.  Classes are sometimes regrouped to provide the best learning situation.

Attendance:
It is important to realize that each and every class covers valuable information and that your commitment to attend each week is critical to your child’s success in the program.  Awards are presented during the Spring Recital to those students with the best attendance records.

Absences:
In the event of unavoidable absence, it is your responsibility to obtain the HOME FUN assignment for the class you missed.  We suggest you get the phone number of at least one other parent in your class in case you cannot reach your teacher.  If you know of your absence ahead of time, arrangements can be made for your child to attend another class at the same level.  Tuition is not refunded for absence.

Siblings:
It is your responsibility to obtain childcare for other children not enrolled in the class.  Older children may wait in the play area and watch television or do homework.  Younger siblings are not allowed in class due to obvious distractions for other students.  You will need to devote your full attention to your enrolled child during class time.

Punctuality:
Please come to class ON TIME allowing for traffic, etc.  If you are early, you may wait in the playroom if another class is in progress.  If not, come in practice! Late arrivals are an unnecessary distraction for the other students and the teacher.

Home Fun Assignments:
Good practice habits should be established right away. Each week a HOME FUN assignment consisting of five activities is placed on the board for you to copy.  Your goal is to cover each activity before your next class.  Keeps practice time short and fun.  Gauge your child’s attention span and try not to push too far beyond it.  The idea is to leave the piano feeling a sense of accomplishment and yet eager to try the next activity the next day!

Stickers:
In MYC, stickers are used to reinforce attendance.  If you miss a class, technically you missed that sticker.  However, if you attend a make-up class that SAME WEEK the sticker will be “caught up”. Please don’t ask your teacher to give out multiple stickers to your child just so that he/she will be “even” with his classmates.  This defeats the purpose of the stickers in the first place!

School Vacations:
Music for Young Children will be closed:

Thanksgiving: 6 days (Tuesday – Sunday);

Christmas: 2 Weeks; Spring Break: 1 Week.

Playroom:
PLEASE be sure any child of yours that has used the playroom cleans up after itself.  NO FOOD OR DRINK should be taken in the playroom.  Rewind all videos and turn off the TV

Recitals:
Recital nights are held at the end of May.  Each child will be showcased on the Yamaha Grand Piano in the Josephine S. Leiser Opera Center..  Tickets will be available the weeks prior to your recital at the cost of  $5.00 per seat.  All Recitals start promptly. DVDs of the Recital will be available at the cost of $25.00 per copy.  No classes are held on the day of a Recital.  It is a dressy affair.

Pianos:
If your child progresses to the point where you intent to pursue private lessons upon graduation from Music for Young Children, please see Miss Jane before rushing out and purchasing a piano. She has been in Fort Lauderdale for over 35 years, and can be of great assistance in helping you find the right instrument at the best price!

Withdrawal
One month’s written notice is required to withdraw from a class and tuition is accrued until the end of the month.

Some Advice on Studying Music:
You or your child’s interest in music classes may not always maintain a steady level.  Some weeks there may be lots of practice sessions and other weeks the practice time may be infrequent.  Consistent attendance will aid in musical success, so do not skip class just because you haven’t practiced enough or because your child says he or she doesn’t want to come.  These fluctuations of interest are PERFECTLY NORMAL and should not signal an end to the musical training of you and our child.  If you are comfortable with any aspect of the class, please discuss it with your teacher before you make a drastic decision to stop valuable music training.
